Inside the Crickett Black Scope Package 22 LR
It’s a single shot bolt action that has to be cocked by hand after the bolt closes. The rebounding firing pin stays blocked until then. For a first rifle, that slow loading routine is a feature, since it builds the habit of treating every shot on purpose.
Length of pull is 12 inches, which suits most young shooters, it weighs about 3 pounds and it comes with a Picatinny optics rail. One takedown screw under the stock holds the barreled action in, which makes cleaning simple.
The blued barrel has the traditional look. Keep a light coat of oil on it and store it dry.
What’s in the Crickett Black Scope Package 22 LR box
- 4×32 Quick Focus scope with rings
- Crickett scope mount for the single shot .22
- Matching rifle case
Everything in the box is ready to go together, so you don’t need to shop for rings or mounts. Plan on one range trip to zero the scope. Most .22 shooters zero at 50 yards.
.22 LR in the Crickett Black Scope Package 22 LR
A .22 LR costs a few cents per round and barely moves the rifle when it fires. Kids can shoot a whole box without flinching, and it’s plenty for small game and tin cans. For the technical side, see the SAAMI cartridge drawings or the .22 LR article on Wikipedia.

Fitting the Crickett Black Scope Package 22 LR
Check fit at home first. The butt should sit in the pocket of the shoulder, the cheek should rest on the stock and the trigger finger should reach without stretching. If the rifle is a little long, the shooter will lean back, and that’s when accuracy falls apart.
Who the Crickett Black Scope Package 22 LR is for
Most buyers pick the Crickett Black Scope Package 22 LR for one of these reasons:
- Parents buying a first rifle for a child
- Grandparents who want to start a grandkid shooting
- Youth programs and 4-H shooting clubs
Teach the basic safety rules before the first range trip. The NSSF safety guides are a good place to start.
Keeping it in good shape
After a range day, run a few patches through the bore from the breech end and wipe the metal down. Store the rifle unloaded and locked, with the ammo kept somewhere else. A cable lock through the open action is cheap and works.
