Crickett Muddy Girl Compact Package 22 LR features
It’s a single shot bolt action that has to be cocked by hand after the bolt closes. The rebounding firing pin stays blocked until then. For a first rifle, that slow loading routine is a feature, since it builds the habit of treating every shot on purpose.
Length of pull is 12 inches, which suits most young shooters, it weighs about 3 pounds and it comes with a Picatinny optics rail. The Crickett line carries a lifetime warranty against defects in material and workmanship from the maker.
Bluing is the classic finish on a .22. Wipe it with a lightly oiled rag after a wet day and it stays in good shape for years.
Crickett Muddy Girl Compact Package 22 LR package contents
- 4×32 Quick Focus scope with rings
- Crickett scope mount for the single shot .22
- Matching rifle case
It’s a complete setup, which makes the Crickett Muddy Girl Compact Package 22 LR an easy gift. Plan on one range trip to zero the scope. Most .22 shooters zero at 50 yards.
Why .22 Long Rifle?
.22 Long Rifle ammo is cheap, easy to find and mild to shoot. It’s the standard for teaching, backyard plinking at a safe range and small game hunting. For the technical side, see the SAAMI cartridge drawings or the .22 LR article on Wikipedia.

Fitting the Crickett Muddy Girl Compact Package 22 LR
Check fit at home first. The butt should sit in the pocket of the shoulder, the cheek should rest on the stock and the trigger finger should reach without stretching. If the rifle is a little long, the shooter will lean back, and that’s when accuracy falls apart.
Who the Crickett Muddy Girl Compact Package 22 LR is for
The Crickett Muddy Girl Compact Package 22 LR is a good fit for:
- Youth programs and 4-H shooting clubs
- Adults who want a light trapping or camp gun
- Parents buying a first rifle for a child
Supervise young shooters every time. The National Shooting Sports Foundation has a helpful safety resource page for families.
Keeping it in good shape
After a range day, run a few patches through the bore from the breech end and wipe the metal down. Store the rifle unloaded and locked, with the ammo kept somewhere else. A cable lock through the open action is cheap and works.
