Inside the Crickett Multicolor Laminate 22 LR
The action is a manually cocking single shot bolt made from alloy nickel plated steel, and the firing pin rebounds so it’s blocked unless the rifle is cocked. One shot at a time is the point: a new shooter slows down and thinks about each one.
Length of pull is 11.5 inches, which suits most young shooters, it weighs about 3 pounds and it comes with iron sights and a receiver drilled and tapped for an optics rail. The receiver is drilled and tapped for Crickett scope mounts if you want to add an optic later.
Bluing is the classic finish on a .22. Wipe it with a lightly oiled rag after a wet day and it stays in good shape for years.
.22 LR in the Crickett Multicolor Laminate 22 LR
.22 Long Rifle ammo is cheap, easy to find and mild to shoot. It’s the standard for teaching, backyard plinking at a safe range and small game hunting. Wikipedia has a good .22 Long Rifle history, and SAAMI publishes the chamber drawings.

Getting the fit right
Fit matters more than looks. Have the child shoulder the rifle with both eyes open. If they can see the sights without craning the neck and reach the trigger comfortably, the stock fits. A short length of pull is the reason these rifles work for kids.
Is the Crickett Multicolor Laminate 22 LR right for you?
Most buyers pick the Crickett Multicolor Laminate 22 LR for one of these reasons:
- Adults who want a light trapping or camp gun
- Parents buying a first rifle for a child
- Grandparents who want to start a grandkid shooting
Teach the basic safety rules before the first range trip. The NSSF safety guides are a good place to start.
Care and storage
Cleaning is easy. Remove the one takedown screw under the stock, lift out the barreled action, run a cleaning rod from the breech and wipe everything with a light oil. Store it unloaded with the bolt open or removed.
