Crickett Walnut Blued 22 LR features
It’s a single shot bolt action that has to be cocked by hand after the bolt closes. The rebounding firing pin stays blocked until then. For a first rifle, that slow loading routine is a feature, since it builds the habit of treating every shot on purpose.
Length of pull is 12 inches, which suits most young shooters, it weighs about 3 pounds and it comes with iron sights and a receiver drilled and tapped for an optics rail. The receiver is drilled and tapped for Crickett scope mounts if you want to add an optic later.
Blued steel looks sharp and costs a little less than stainless. A quick wipe with an oily rag after use keeps rust away.
.22 LR in the Crickett Walnut Blued 22 LR
The .22 Long Rifle is the cheapest and quietest common cartridge, with almost no recoil. That’s why most people learn to shoot with one. It’s also good for squirrels, rabbits and plinking out to about 75 yards. Wikipedia has a good .22 Long Rifle history, and SAAMI publishes the chamber drawings.

Sizing the Crickett Walnut Blued 22 LR
Fit matters more than looks. Have the child shoulder the rifle with both eyes open. If they can see the sights without craning the neck and reach the trigger comfortably, the stock fits. A short length of pull is the reason these rifles work for kids.
Is the Crickett Walnut Blued 22 LR right for you?
The Crickett Walnut Blued 22 LR is a good fit for:
- Youth programs and 4-H shooting clubs
- Adults who want a light trapping or camp gun
- Parents buying a first rifle for a child
Teach the basic safety rules before the first range trip. The NSSF safety guides are a good place to start.
Keeping it in good shape
Cleaning is easy. Remove the one takedown screw under the stock, lift out the barreled action, run a cleaning rod from the breech and wipe everything with a light oil. Store it unloaded with the bolt open or removed.
