What you get with the Crickett 91/30 Mini
The 91/30 Mini is a scaled down copy of the Mosin-Nagant 91/30, built on the single shot Crickett action. It has a straight bolt handle like the original Mosins, copied sights and proof style markings on the walnut stock and barrel.
The 20 inch barrel is a lot of barrel for a youth .22, which helps the iron sights. If you collect military rifles, this is a fun way to get a kid shooting a Mosin look-alike.
Bluing is the classic finish on a .22. Wipe it with a lightly oiled rag after a wet day and it stays in good shape for years.
.22 LR in the Crickett 91/30 Mini
A .22 LR costs a few cents per round and barely moves the rifle when it fires. Kids can shoot a whole box without flinching, and it’s plenty for small game and tin cans. Wikipedia has a good .22 Long Rifle history, and SAAMI publishes the chamber drawings.

Fitting the Crickett 91/30 Mini
Fit matters more than looks. Have the child shoulder the rifle with both eyes open. If they can see the sights without craning the neck and reach the trigger comfortably, the stock fits. A short length of pull is the reason these rifles work for kids.
Who the Crickett 91/30 Mini is for
Most buyers pick the Crickett 91/30 Mini for one of these reasons:
- Parents buying a first rifle for a child
- Grandparents who want to start a grandkid shooting
- Youth programs and 4-H shooting clubs
Teach the basic safety rules before the first range trip. The NSSF safety guides are a good place to start.
Care and storage
After a range day, run a few patches through the bore from the breech end and wipe the metal down. Store the rifle unloaded and locked, with the ammo kept somewhere else. A cable lock through the open action is cheap and works.
